Breast Cancer? I'm 17 and a senior at highschool and a student at the School of Nursing and I'm a huge advocate for Breast Cancer research and support. I'm always wearing my pink ribbon and my pink ribbon necklace and I have many breast cancer/pink ribbon clothing articles. Since it's breast cancer awareness month I tried to see what my community//county and surronding cities are doing to support...........and I found out...completely nothing. At the highschool football games I take donations and sell pink ribbons. I'm getting some pretty positive responses from this but I need more. Does anyone know where I can get free materials for breast cancer awareness other than just printing stuff off the internet?

Many people suffer from all types of cancer daily and I've had family suffer from both Leukemia and Pancreatic Cancer. It's seems that if a celebrity is diagnosed with a cancer or has died from a cancer that's the only way awareness will be publicized. Now that Patrick Swayze has passed I'm sure Pancreatic cancer will be well known coming this November (Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month) Does anyone agree?

National Breast Cancer Month,How are you contributing or donating to the cause? Some people donate and contribute in diffrent ways. Whether its a monatary donation or a walk for the cure, everybody can do a small part to help such a devastating illness. If you know someone that have breast cancer, kind words or calling frequently to check up on them to see how they are doing is doing a big part, of helping women or even men because they get breast cancer to, but mostly women to fight breast cancer. They need encouragment to know that somebodys in their corner helping and cheering them on, as they agree to fight this instead of giving up. Dealing with any illness is tiring. But with encouragment and caring, we can help these women beat this illness and get on with their lives.

How long can you live with untreated breast cancer and have no symptoms? Ok, I'm 21 years old and a little over a year ago I found one little hard thing in my left breast and a long hard mass in my right breast. These hard parts could only be felt when sitting up right and pressing down on the area. If I was laying flat on my back I couldn't feel them. I went to Planned Parenthood and got a breast exam and they said it felt like fibrocystis and not worry. Well here it is almost a year latter and the hard little thing in my breast can now be felt laying on my back as well as sitting up. I went to a surgeon and he's sending me for a ultrasound. So what I am wondering is if it was breast cancer all along, am I screwed? I Feel fine, no problems, but how long before it's too late to do anything about breast cancer?

What does it mean when breast cancer (level 1 tumor) has already gone into the bones? I have a dear family member who went to the doctor because of a fall - turned out she fractured her pelvis - but in the course of investigating it, the doctor discovered lesions in the bones pretty much all over her body. Turns out she has a level 1 tumor in her breast and that the lesions in her bones are also breast cancer. For some reason, the doctors are NOT giving her a death sentence, but I have always heard that when a cancer spreads to the bones or another organ, then there is pretty much no hope. So, is there actually hope now?

For the past few days, I have been experiencing some very bad pain in one of my breasts. I have talked to my mom about it, but she said it may just be a briuse from working out in P.E. She told me that if the pain persists, she will set up a doctor's appointment. Niether one of us has open expressed the possibility of it being breast cancer but I have thought about it. Why do you think so much more attention is paid to breast cancer over Prostate Cancer? The US Government spends double on breast cancer research over prostate and the corporate disparity is much greater. Campbells soup doesn't have Prostate awareness soup cans! Although deaths from breat cancer are 1/3 higher there are far more cases of prostate cancer, over 240,000 per year. The funding and awarness differential is 300 or 400%. So is it a gender issue, an age issue (tends to be later onset) or What?

NHS spend on testicular and prostate Cancer compared to Breast and cervical ? Me and the wife were having a discussing about the relative nhs investment and mortality rates of male and female cancers (as she is a school nurse assistant). I maintain that male cancers (testicular / prostate) are not taken as seriously as female cancers (breast and cervical) and have less investment in them. Does anyone know if there is a disparity between the four cancers and why this is the case? Please don't cloud the issue by telling me that men suffer with breast cancer, I know!

It does't look good. More tests will be done. but how can I deal with the fact that she could be gone in 6 months? My mother had breast cancer but was able to get it before it got her. So more then likely I will get it too. Cancer is so ugly and such a hurtful disease. Don't know how to deal with it. I am fully aware that it doesn't necessarily mean death in 6 months, I just meant that it was a possiblity it could of happened in the near future. Thanks for all your support and answers. My sister is going to be okay. She had some more tests run, and she doesn't have it thank God. She has cystic tumours in both of her breast but they are not cancerous at this point. So all is well, and thanks God she will be okay. Thanks everyone for you wonderful answers and support at this time of worry.

(my breast get really tender just before my period, so I don't know if i could touch them at that time) Please be descriptive as possible, thanks.
Why would breast cancer be more important than other cancers? There is a lot media coverage on breast cancer than any others. Many more organizations gather funds for that cause than any other type of cancer. Why? Why would people divide their efforts and independently search for cures against that specific type of cancer? Wouldn't it be way more efficient to have a single (possibly international) organization to gather funds for developing a cure against cancer, since it's the exact same illness in breasts than in intestines and everywhere else? I know that cancer is an umbrella term, but in molecular terms, the same imbalances and genetic defects give rise to all types of cancer. Sure, many environmental factors give rise to the different types of cancer: -Skin cancer is mostly caused by UV damage to DNA; -Evidences point to the bacterium Helicobacter Pilori as a cause of stomach cancer; -Lung cancers are mostly caused by carcinogens in cigarettes and asbestos; But breast cancer is on par with all the other types of cancer in terms of ultimate cause: a genetic defect. Cells don't go astray, they simply execute the genetic information they have; and if part of that information is missing or abnormal, either the cell dies (by apoptosis) or forms cancer I'm not discriminating women or any such ridiculous thing! That person "..." clearly has a biased opinion of others. My point is, why not putting more emphasis on "fighting CANCER" than fighting "breast cancer," if the solutions to breast cancers are the same than for any other
Is there a connection between birth control pills and breast cancer? One gynecologist said there wasn't and prescribed them to me, but recently another one said I shouldn't take them because of the breast cancer risk. My mother had breast cancer and ovarian cancer. She has a lump in her breast and she went to the doctor and they said its "abnormal." She thinks she has cancer, but she doesn't know for sure yet. She's getting a sonogram done.
Why is breast cancer the cause du jour for women when heart disease kills many, many more? You know, the pink ribbons and such, Baseball players wearing pink for a day and looking ridiculous, etc. Shouldn't women be wearing different color ribbons and marching for a cure for heart disease, since it kills far, far more women than breast cancer does? It can't possibly be that heart disease is suffered by both women and men that heart disease doesn't get its due, can it?

What are some good presents for people struggling with breast cancer? I know a lady in her late 40's early 50's that has just found out she has breast cancer. It has really gotten her down. She has just started kemo. I want to get her something to help her through these times since she has no one really to talk to. What are some cd's or books that might help her spirit in these hard times?
What is it with women getting mastectomies just because there is a chance of breast cancer? Just saw a story on the Today Show about a woman who had, based on new genetic testing methods, an 85% chance of getting breast cancer and so she had her healthy breasts removed. Sounds sadomasochistic to me to do something like that when you are just as likely to die in accidents or other diseases and the testing is new so who knows if she would have gotten the disease. There was a history of breast cancer in her family but a history dosen't mean you are going to have it, there is a history of everything in my family but the things I ended up suffering from nobody else had. Everyone is going to die anyway why chop up your body to try and avoid the eneventabtle? These stories make me sick! When I say these stories make me sick I mean that in the sense that I think they are gross not that I'm angry.

We thought she had hepatitis but it turns out it was breast cancer. I know her prognosis isn't good, and that there's no cure for her situation, but is there a reasonable chance she may overcome the immediate liver failure crisis and live in better health than her current bedridden state for a little while? Or is she going to be terribly ill from now on?

When triple negative breast cancer spreads to the liver what are the chances of survival? My friend was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer that spread to her liver, after a year of chemo (not consistent, she has low blood platelets so they had to get a grip on that first) she went for a body scan..the tumor in her liver grew 2 cm and they found two more small spots in her stomach. I am in denial I know, but what are her chances of actually beating this? I am researching, but I really can't find ANY hopeful news. Is there any?

I'm 20 years old, almost 21 and I sometimes freak myself out in the shower because I think I've felt a lump in my breast but obviously haven't because whenever I try to find it again I can't. Why is there not a large prostate cancer awareness movement like there is for breast cancer? I ask this considering prostate cancer is more prevalent than breast cancer. Good god. I am not complaining. I am just wondering why there isn't one. Gwennie B, that is such a stereotpye. Believe it or not, most men are capable of being mature adults. I'm sorry to say it, but your mentality about men is childish. No harm done, Gwennie.
Is 21 years old too young to get screened for breast cancer? It's breast cancer month and I heard about getting free thermal imaging breast cancer screenings in the newspaper. I don't have a history of breast cancer in the family, but I thought it would be cool to bring my mom with me to get screened. What is connection with aluminum in deodorants and breast cancer? Some years back a woman scientist had gotten into trouble with drug company she was working for when she reported about particular content in underarm deodorant which she said cause cancer in women. Why such a strong push to cure breast cancer? Why is it more important than any other cancer of the body, like lung cancer, colon cancer, brain cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc., or any other diseases like MS, Alzheimer's, Cerebral Palsy, etc? It's like everywhere I go I see pink ribbons and "cure breast cancer" marketing. It's push to cure it is so incredibly disproportionate as to make me think there is some political motive behind it. Could it have something to do with the fact that abortion can cause breast cancer? That would certainly provide a political motive.
